JPEG XL coming to Safari

JPEG XL is a new image format that Apple has said Safari will support for the new versions of iOS, iPadOS and macOS coming this fall. JPEG XL looks to be a worthwhile update to JPEG that is currently used, including better and lossless compression, along with HDR and a wider colour gamut. It has been under development and been available in test browsers for Firefox and Chrome, though controversially dropped from Chrome. Photographers can save in JPEG XL format from a variety of image editing programs including Affinity Photo 2 and GraphicConverter.
